October 19, 2010
The committee discussed ideas that could be used in developing a grade 2-3 art curriculum. The use of various media including collage, clay, and painting were considered. Projects should be considered for both group and individual completion.  Ideas for the curriculum included:
·         Using art vocabulary
·         Focusing on eye-hand coordination
·         Understanding perspective and depth of space
·         Using measuring activities including reading a ruler
·         Looking at compound shapes, shapes within shapes, inside/outside shapes
·         Positive and negative images
·         Conservative use of materials
·         Holding and cutting art materials
·         Have exposure to “new” art materials

The committee will explore these issues in its next meeting. Additional grade level teachers will be invited to attend that meeting.
The next meeting of the Art Council will be on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 3:30 pm at Davenport Elementary.
