VOCATIONAL CURRICULUM COUNCIL

The chairperson of this council is Dr. Trevor Steinbach - Principal Davenport Elementary.

The Vocational Curriculum Council met at the high school agricultural room. Mr. Jerbi reported that his computer software was recently upgraded. The previous version of Auto Cad 2005 and 8 other packages were changed using a 15 station pack. The software costs were paid with a Commonwealth Edison grant. There are no changes in the making for the orientation (beginning) classes in his area. His production technology course is focusing on community projects. A future project will include working with Wrigley Field on chalking mechanisms.
Mrs. Hulstedt indicated that her Agriculture Mechanics course would be working on a tractor during this semester. The landscaping course will be working with the golf course in Genoa during the spring semester. The Future Farmers of America club is providing lessons in Agriculture to the 4th graders at Genoa Elementary and providing Davenport with its Ag field trip in February during FFA week. The students at Davenport will visit the high school agriculture room and meet the animals. Students are now being provided the opportunity to take a 4th year of Horticulture using an independent study program.
Mrs. Sandora discussed the Business/Computer Tech courses at the high school. She indicated that there was a major curriculum reorganization to merge concepts in business courses with technology courses. She is currently working on a proposed sequence which will be taken to the District Curriculum Council in November.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, February 16, 2010 at 3:00 pm in the Agricultural room at GKHS.
